The Wolverine: 15 Stupid Things To Avoid Doing In Real Life

14. Don't Repeat Mistakes

Lesson2 Learning from your mistakes is key to survival. If we kept making the same mistakes, we wouldn€™t have evolved to the top of the food chain. Shingen Yashida is Mariko€™s father. He is also her rival for becoming heir to the Yashida Empire and will do whatever it takes to secure that role, even if that means murdering his own daughter. Shingen is presented as a master swordsman from the moment he first appears on screen. Wolverine is even impressed by his skills. So it€™s a foregone conclusion that these two will meet in combat at some point in the film. This happens just after Wolverine has performed open-heart surgery on himself and regained his healing powers. He has a bloody sword fight with Shingen who ends up losing. Wolverine has the opportunity to kill him, but he spares Shingen€™s life. But instead of taking this opportunity to live another day, Shingen runs at Wolverine with his sword and Wolverine is forced to kill him by stabbing him in the throat. Had Shingen graciously accepted the mercy Wolverine gave him, he wouldn€™t have died. But if he must attack Wolverine again, he should have realized that attacking a man who performed open heart surgery in front of you and has the ability to heal himself really quickly, it might be better to come at him with a different weapon than the same sword that had no effect on him before. Not learning from his mistakes cost Shingen his life.
