Wonder Woman 1984 Trailer Review: 8 Ups & 1 Down
Ups...
8. It's VERY Different
Wonder Woman was a period piece set during the first World War and focused on the titular warrior's desire to inspire mankind with hope and defeat Ares. The sequel is set in the heart of the '80s and centers on the rise of a business tycoon in a world that has made significant advancements in technology. Notice the difference?
Though still technically a period piece, Wonder Woman 1984 isn't attempting to recreate the successful formula of the first film just because it worked - if it was, it would have been set during World War II. Instead, it's taking a risk by exploring a very different (and presumably more crime-orientated) narrative that will, in turn, ensure that we have a very different film.
The trailer makes this very clear from the get-go. From the choice of music to the vivid colors, it's clear that this will be something else entirely that just so happens to feature some of the same characters.
This approach also pays tribute to another certain Wonder Woman...
