2. Cassandras Dream
Is Cassandras Dream the nadir of Allens patchy career? Not quite, but with a cast that includes Tom Wilkinson, Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell, something far more compelling would be expected. You cant help but think throughout that having Ewan McGregor, a Scotsman, and Colin Farrell, An Irishman play cockneys just seems wrong, with this thought clarified once the two start talking, butchering the accent completely. Focusing on the moral that murder is wrong, it sees 2 brothers given the choice to commit murder to clear their debts. Heard of the theme before? You have. With Crimes and Misdemeanors and Match Point, his other London based film, the use of murder was far more intriguing. Cassandras Dream just feels recycled and reused. The once saving grace of the movie is the wasted talent of Philip Glass, who composed the score. One of Allens lazier moments.
