2. Lack Of Tension
One of the more surprising issues with World War Z is how absolutely bereft of tension it is for the most part; Gerry manages to negotiate safe haven for his family aboard a military ship early on, and because his family are safe for the majority of the rest of the film, where is the suspense? Gerry searching for an end to the plague simply isn't interesting enough, and the man by himself is not sufficient for us to care, largely because his character is an everyman shell rather than a developed entity in his own right. This follows right through to the Wales-set finale, which has Gerry and others creeping down hallways, trying not to alert the zombies to their presence, but we're so uninvested in the characters that there's simply no reason to care about whether they get munched on or not.
