World War Z: 5 Pros & Cons

Pro: The Zombies

World War Z Considering Foster is the same guy who nearly derailed the Daniel Craig James Bond era with the incoherent Quantum of Solace, it's a minor miracle the set pieces of World War Z are great. All of them are tense, action-packed, and exciting (especially that scene in the plane...). Part of what makes them so successful is the fact that the zombies are very fast. I liked this because it helped add to the drama and made the infected more of a threat. When you see hordes of zombies stacking on top of each other to scale walls and chase people through streets, you hold your breath and hope for the best because these guys are tough to beat. It was a smart story choice to make the zombies sprint towards their prey as opposed to having them plod along. From a technical standpoint, the special effects were terrific. There was a lot of doubt expressed when some CGI-heavy clips were featured in trailers, but the post-production team did a great job at making everything look realistic. It was the right call to combine practical zombie makeup with computer graphics in order to avoid any I Am Legend type disasters during the creature design. That decision helped make the outbreak and the zombies feel more real and added something to the movie. It didn't just look like one big video game. I knew when CGI was used, but it was difficult to tell the difference at some points. But not EVERYTHING about the zombies was great...
