3. Z Is For Zombies
In case no one has figured out what the Z stands for in
World War Z, its zombies. With numerous movies made about zombies and the different incantations of them that have been created, there is a whole catalog of zombies to choose from. You have your classic slow moving, carelessly stumbling zombies; fast pace marathon running zombies or your super strong mutated mountain of flesh zombies. 28 Days Later, with a dash of
I Am Legend for some flavor. Now Ill give the benefit of the doubt with this movie as how the zombies will turn out because there have been some good zombie movies and there have been some bad zombie movies based solely on how the zombies looked and acted. Granted, there have been some movies with bad scripting yet had awesome zombies which saved the movie. If you were to ask older generations that grew up with the Romero zombie movies what they liked about those movies, they would more than likely say it was the special effects that made those movie memorable, followed secondly by the directing and the plot. The effects in
World War Z have a combination of both special effects and digital effects. Both can make or break a good zombie. The few large action scenes shown in both trailers are using digital zombies which just pile up on top of each other like a big fleshy Jenga tower that keeps toppling over only to pile back up again. This looks cool in the trailer, but a lot of things looked cool in the trailer and the movie ended up being a disappointment. But, of course, that is the point of the trailer, to look cool in order to persuade you to see the movie. Not many shots were shown that had makeup wearing zombies so lets hope they did the zombies justice for the close ups. Hopefully, this movie can be considered a classic even by todays standards whether it is the zombies or Brads acting that is the saving grace of this movie, which leads us to our 4th thing we learned
