5. It's All About GOAT Blood - Him
The Jordan Peele-produced sports-themed horror film Him is certainly a good-looking movie with solid performances from both Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers, but when it comes time to explain precisely what's going on, it epically fumbles the ball at the finish line.
Young football prodigy Cam (Tyriq Withers) eventually learns that his legendary mentor Isaiah (Marlon Wayans) is part of a line of manufactured "Greatest of All Time" players, each of whom are granted enhanced physical abilities by receiving transfused blood ritualistically passed down from GOAT player to GOAT player.
Isaiah insists that he and Cam must now fight to the death to determine the one current GOAT, resulting in Cam beating Isaiah to death.
Cam is then confronted by everyone else who was in on the ritual, where it's additionally revealed that Cam's own father plotted for him to become the next GOAT, and everything has been carefully orchestrated to guide Cam on this path.
Coming at the end of such an intense and vibes-rich horror film, the whole magic blood angle just comes off too silly, like a filmmaker desperately trying to ape Jordan Peele's distinctive style and tone.
