20 Movie Roles That Were Insanely Miscast

17. Tom Hanks - Elvis

There are precious few actors more reliably brilliant than Tom Hanks, and so it was easy to assume that he'd give a solid performance as Colonel Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann's 2022 Elvis Presley biopic.

But this was a rare whiff for Hanks, who transformed himself so aggressively with a fat suit, prosthetic nose, and questionable accent that one can't help but wonder - why not cast somebody who just looks and sounds more like Parker?

Hollywood loves transformations of course, but in this case Hanks wildly overcooked it, turning Parker into a laughable caricature far away from what the actual man looked or sounded like.

Truly, it's probably the only time in Hanks' career that one could conceivably call him miscast, and yet it also proves beyond any doubt that even the most beloved and unimpeachable of A-listers aren't right for every single role they're offered.
