Cannonball, like Sunspot, will be getting his live action debut in next year's New Mutants. That shouldn't stop him from getting the nod for X-Force though, especially if Fox are keen to build an MCU-style universe in the years ahead.
While we're all in the dark regarding just how, exactly, the New Mutants will end (as should be the case), it wouldn't be at all disingenuous to surmise that some of its characters will be getting some kind of X-membership by its end. Again, the link shared between that series and X-Force in the comics plays well to that idea, and Cannonball - boasting a power-set we're yet to really see on the big screen - is the ideal candidate to make that journey.
Speaking of his powers, Sam Guthrie can quite literally launch himself like a rocket and create kinetic force fields on top of that too. That makes him a massive threat, and - much like Negasonic Teenage Warhead - the character's explosive elements lend him an unpredictable quality.
He might not look like X-Force material, but there's plenty more to Cannonball than meets the eye.
