It's almost as if the director couldn't decide what he wanted the movie to be. Here is an extended version of Jean Grey unleashing hell on Earth, complete with soldiers screaming as they're disintegrated. Since Jean's transformation into Dark Phoenix was the point of the story, quite why this scene was trimmed down is a mystery. Surely there should have been more destruction at her hands, not less.
