X-Men: Apocalypse - 10 Reasons To Be Excited About The Lead Villain

10. No, Seriously €“ He Really Was A God

MarvelMarvelThe man who would become Apocalypse was born 5000 years ago in Akkaba in Western Asia, what is now the Arab state of Jordan. Abandoned by his own people in the desert as an infant due to his uncanny appearance (grey skin and blue lips not being the usual at the time), he remained alive, and was rescued by a tribe who prized the will to survive above all else. They named the baby En Sabah Nur, meaning The First One. That€™s not just a catchy nickname, by the way. His bizarre appearance hinted at his vast potential power €“ En Sabah Nur was a mutant, and one of, if not the first mutants to ever appear on Earth. When the tribe are threatened by the might of the Egyptian army, En Sabah Nur finds refuge in a cave and inadvertently discovers a cache of alien technology. Seeking revenge upon Pharoah Rama-Tut and the state of Egypt, En Sabah Nur€™s colossal mutant powers emerge, and he renames himself Apocalypse, literally meaning €˜the revelation€™, so called because he claimed to represent the end of an old age and the beginning of the new. Apocalypse was worshipped for millennia after coming into his power. Essentially immortal, and phenomenally powerful, he has inspired myths and religions and been the motivating force behind great wars the world over for thousands of years. This isn€™t just another mutant in a silly Halloween costume with a chip on his shoulder. This is a near-godlike creature, the stuff of legend.
