X-Men: Apocalypse - 14 Things You Need To Know

3. There Will Be Stiff Competition From Disney

Taking into account the last X-Men movie's success alone, 20th Century Fox should have nothing to worry about when it comes to audience numbers. Days Of Future Past is to date the highest grossing film in the X-Men franchise (its $748 mil global haul easily tops The Last Stand's $459 mil gross), and the hype surrounding Apocalypse suggests Fox have another success on their hands. One problem, however, is there's going to be stiff competition from Disney, who are taking the battle to Fox by dropping the Alice In Wonderland sequel, Alice Through The Looking Glass, on the same day - May 27th, 2016. Two very different films, but one is a sequel to a film that significantly outgrossed the predecessor of the other. Alice In Wonderland took over $1 billion worldwide, despite dismal reviews, suggesting there's a critic-proof audience ready in waiting for Through The Looking Glass (which is probably why Disney commissioned it). That the sequel will arrive on the same day as Apocalypse could stand to dent the new X-Men movie's box office potential.
