X-Men: Apocalypse: Everything We Already Know

4. Sophie Turner's American Accent Sucks

On paper, casting talented Game of Thrones star as a young Jean Grey sounds great, but as the Comic-Con trailer makes clear, she's facing one huge handicap: her American accent is a total mess. When she says "I saw the end of the world", her inflection sounds like she's trying too hard to sound American and therefore it doesn't convince (especially the word "world"), and when she follows up with "I could feel all this death", the word "death" sees her slip back into her British accent. Accents are hard work, for sure, but if this is the best take Singer had to use for the Con trailer, then it's a pretty worrying sign that she might struggle throughout the entire movie. Of course, Michael Fassbender famously kept slipping back into his native Irish tongue during First Class, but he didn't sink the movie, so a shonky accent isn't the worst thing that could happen to Apocalypse.
