X-Men: Apocalypse Official Trailer Breakdown - 36 Things You Need To See

22. That Bloody Song

About this point in the trailer Clairity's cover of Coldplay's Don't Panic kicks in. Urgh. Look, I got it in the Superbowl TV spot (the band were doing the Half-Time Show), but here it just feels perfunctory, not really adding anything to the emotion that a good orchestral piece wouldn't. See, oh, Days Of Future Past for an example of how to do it right. This trend of slow, airy covers of songs in trailers needs to stop - it occasionally works (Suicide Squad's Comic-Con First Look), but most of the time the song choice is either too obvious (Don't Panic, really?) or the recording doesn't do anything. C'mon trailer editors, find a new trick. Oh, and here's a shot of Mystique hiding behind a broken wall. Cool.
