OK, so what are we seeing in this flashback? It's his origins, but as a mutant it's not like he can be just given powers (that would be a major departure from the comics). Instead, it looks like some form of sacrifice - there's two bodies on slabs here; I'd guess the Apocalypse consciousness is being transferred into an immortal vessel.
