14. The D'Bari Race

When Jessica Chastain was first cast, she was linked to playing Lilandra Neramani of the Shi'ar Empire - a race not entirely unlike humans who are stronger and have some level of telepathic powers. But she debunked that herself and it turns out she's actually playing a key figure in the D'Bari race, an alien species turned nomads by the destruction of their own planet.

The D'Bari exist in the comics and are famous as the people whose star system was destroyed by Phoenix during the Dark Phoenix Saga - an echo of which exists in the film as their planet is destroyed by the Force on-screen too. It's slightly different, in that the Phoenix Force used their sun to replenish itself and killed billions in the process.

The D'Bari are also changed by design from the comics, where they were a humanoid plant species. Here, they're more like traditional greys.
