X-Men: Dark Phoenix - 40 WTF Moments

2. Don't Call It Dusting, Don't Call It Dusting...

Dark Phoenix Fight
20th Century Fox

When it was revealed that Dark Phoenix had been extensively reshot in order to make it less like a recent superhero movie, it was pretty obvious that they meant Captain Marvel, because of the cosmic elements. Looking back now, knowing about the aliens disguised as humans, the super-powered badass female hero and the influence on her of a nefarious alien overlord, it's not surprising they changed it.

But what we didn't anticipate was that the end of the movie was going to basically just steal Thanos' "dusting" method of getting rid of enemies. How exactly did Fox look at their Captain Marvel-alike third act, decide it was a bad idea and then end up replacing it with something that absolutely everybody would say was just like Infinity War? You're either trying to avoid MCU comparisons or you're not.

1. The Cafe

X Men Chess
Fox

At the end, we get a nice little moment where Magneto and Xavier - newly retired - meet up in France and have a nice game of chess for old times sake. You know, not the old times when Magneto was an absolute irredeemable sh*tbag, just the old times where they played chess.

It's a touching moment, but it would be even better if the cafe they sit outside wasn't literally called Cafe Old Friends as anyone with the slightest amount of French behind them will tell you. They even spell the French wrong. Good.
