32. How Exactly Was The Commander Still Working?!

So, the whole issue of Jean being infected by the Phoenix Force relies on her having to go back to the shuttle because the commander was still stranded after the rest of the crew were saved. That happened because he'd been separated to go and try and fix the malfunctioning thruster engine that has put the shuttle into a dangerous spin so bad the X-Men can't even get near them.

Firstly, how the HELL did the commander, hero though he is, manage to get out of his seat and to the cargo hold to "fix" the engine while spinning at several Gs? And next up, how committed to his job is he that he CONTINUED fixing the engine - as seen when he's rescued - even after Cyclops shot the engine?! That guy is the real superhero.

31. Pause For Effect

Obviously, melodrama is useful sometimes, but when it literally turns one of your characters into a dangerous idiot, you've got to question it. For instance, when Nightcrawler goes out into space to bring Jean back to the safety of the X-Jet, why does he pause when he grabs her to have a look at her? SHE'S LITERALLY OUT IN SPACE, dude, get her back to safety!!

Also, how come Jean can breathe in space? Does the Phoenix Force make science not work?
