X-Men: Dark Phoenix - 6 Reasons To Be Excited

5. They're Going To Outer Space

One slight problem the X-Men movies have always had is their insistence on keeping things that bit more grounded than they perhaps needed to. This much was evident from the very first film, when the extravagant, colourful costumes of the comics were substituted for more practical, basic black PVC uniforms.

It also meant the movies shied away with going quite so out-there plot-wise, with the time-and-space-hopping storylines kept at arm's length in favour of less outrageous narrative devices.

But no more. 2014's Days of Future Past already brought time-travel into the mix; now, Dark Phoenix will finally see the X-Men go full sci-fi and venture into outer space, reportedly within the first five minutes of the movie.

We all saw how well the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and Thor: Ragnarok did; cosmic is the only way to go with comic book movies these days. And it's long overdue for the X-Men, who never shied away from space-bound stories on the printed page.

And if they're prepared to take that small step in a new direction, who knows what else the future might bring?
