X-Men: Dark Phoenix - 6 Reasons To Be Excited
1. It Could Be The Closest In Spirit To The 1990s Cartoon Series
Look - just try to overlook the fact that Professor X, Magneto, Mystique and Beast have shown very little sign of ageing three decades in the last few films. Let's just clock it up to their mutation, shall we?
Dwelling on that little quibble would rob us of one of the key things that's kept the recent X-movies fresh and fun; the different period settings, from the 1960s-set First Class, to the 1970s of Days of Future Past, and yes, even the 1980s of Apocalypse.
And so, Dark Phoenix will at last bring the X-Men into the 1990s: and this is a particularly big deal for viewers of a certain age. Say what you will about the importance of the comics, but the fact is that for a great many X-Men fans, it all began with Marvel's beloved 1990s X-Men animated TV series.
As Dark Phoenix enters into this timeline, and is at last venturing into cosmic territory, could we at last see the X-Men embrace that classic, colourful style of the show? Potentially with those same eye-catching costumes and - fingers crossed - maybe even that iconic theme tune? We can but hope.
