X-Men Dark Phoenix - 8 Things It Must Do
2. Figure Out Sophie Turner's Accent
Sophie Turner's American accent in X-Men: Apocalypse split the room: some thought it was the worst accent ever to be heard on screen, while others thought it was merely mediocre.
Neither is ideal.
This is not meant as a slant against Sophie Turner's acting skills. Clearly she has the chops necessary to play Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones. But something must be done about her attempts to sound American.
One option is simply to hire a better accent coach and hope for the best.
The other option has already been done before. Halle Berry's attempt at an African accent in the first X-Men film was widely despised, so Berry subsequently dropped it for the sequels. Storm sounding American wasn't faithful to the comics, but the change was for the better.
Considering Days of Future Past essentially existed to wipe out The Last Stand, the X-Men franchise has precisely zero problems with retcons. It wouldn't be that far of a stretch for Fox to say that Jean Grey has actually had a British accent for the entire series.
Some purists may not approve, but Sophie Turner will be the main focus of the upcoming film. It would be much more preferable to change one slight part about Jean Grey in order to make Turner more natural in her role.
The alternative is running the risk of ruining the Dark Phoenix Saga by having a distracting accent.
