X-Men Dark Phoenix - 8 Things It Must Do
1. Don't Cast Taylor Swift As The Dazzler
Please.
To be fair, Taylor Swift's acting career only includes three films, one of which was animated (The Lorax), while another was a sappy Holiday-themed ensemble movie (Valentine's Day). To be even more fair, it is doubtful that anyone ever thought that NSYNC member Justin Timberlake could ever be a successful actor. Could Swift actually be a good actor? It is technically possible.
But it is very hard not to be worried about what the marketing would quickly become.
Instead of focusing on a group of mutants fighting against impossible odds, it suddenly becomes Taylor Swift's Superhero Movie. With the high price tag that Swift is likely to come with, it wouldn't be too unexpected for Fox to make her one of the biggest parts of the movie to justify their large expenses.
Rumors have been swirling that Swift may be offered the part of the pop star mutant. However, it's difficult to believe that it is anything except a cheap ploy to get Swift's fans to go see the movie.
X-Men doesn't need the cash grab. It's a superhero movie. That alone is almost always enough to guarantee a high audience turnout. With the box office juggernaut that X-Men is, Fox really doesn't need the extra appeal to market their movie.
Also, it needs to be said: Dazzler is one of the dumbest ideas for a superhero ever.
