3. It Bears (Unfortunate) Similarities To Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer

There are many things wrong with 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer, but one major aspect that angered fans - in particular, fans of the comic-books - was the way the movie handled Galactus.

In the source material, the planet-devouring villain is a gigantic humanoid figure wearing purple armour and an iconic helmet, but in the movie, he was... a cloud. Just a big black cloud. How creative. You would've thought they'd learnt their lesson by now, but sadly, it looks like Fox is heading down this route once again.

Over on Twitter, Jeremy Conrad likened Dark Phoenix's depiction of the Phoenix Force to Rise Of The Silver Surfer's version of Galactus, noting how the two both look like big clouds.

There's nothing wrong with deviating from the source material, of course (the movie version of Civil War is vastly different from the comics, but it's arguably even better) but since the Phoenix Force looks so badass in the comics, it's disappointing to hear that it's been visually neutered in the film.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
