5. Politics Really Are Going To Play A Big Part...
Given the setting, it's not really all that surprising to see that the turbulent political landscape of the '70s is going to play a major part in the story. Director Bryan Singer already announced that Richard Nixon himself would feature in the movie, and going by the trailer, many of Days of Future Past's locations are going to be politically-themed. The trailer features flashes of what appears to be the White House itself, complete with a secret vault that may or may not lead into that underground bunker that you can also glimpse briefly. That aside, the scenes set in the past have a real Watergate feel about them, and there are shots of political rallies, Secret service agents doing shady things, and crowds waving Vietnamese flags. Clearly the writers haven't shied away from exploring what was actually important in the United States at the time (which they made sure to do with First Class, too). Hopefully all of this political integration will make for a movie that feels weighted in real historical significance. Also: we can't wait to see Nixon, for whatever reason he ends up appearing.
