New Heroes
Omar Sy as Bishop
According to the comics, Bishop is a time travelling mutant police officer from the future. His mutant ability allows him to absorb energy blasts and use that energy to create energy blasts of his own. He was born in a mutant concentration camp where he was branded with an M over his right eye. His grandmother told him stories of the legendary X-Men and through time travel he has been able to meet them on a number of occasions, sometimes as an ally and sometimes as an antagonist. Little is known about Bishops role in Days of Future Past. He was not part of the original Days of Future Past comic book arch, but he was a key character in the adaptation of the story for the 90s X-Men animated series. In that story, Bishop is the one sent back into the past to prevent the Sentinel ruled future. We know that Wolverine will be the one sent back in time in the film. It is possible that Bishop is a time traveller from yet another future. Omar Sy has proven he can act by being the first black actor to win the French César Award for Best Actor for his role in The Intouchables. The challenge for Sy will be whether he can play an action role in a Hollywood blockbuster.
Fan Bingbing as Blink
According to the comics, Blink is a mutant with the ability to teleport through portals. She can also focus her abilities into short crystal javelins (pictured above) that teleport people and objects on impact. The name Blink comes from the sound made when she teleports things. The most well-known version of Blink is from the Age of Apocalypse alternate timeline. She was so popular that when the main Age of Apocalypse story ended, she joined another team of heroes that travelled between different timelines, dimensions and realities. Blink will be played by the extremely popular Chinese actress Fan Bingbing who also recently played a minor role in the Chinese cut of Iron Man 3. It is unclear whether Bingbing as Blink will be a major ongoing character in the X-Men film franchise or just a means to tap into the highly lucrative Chinese market.
