X-Men Relaunch Wishlist: 7 Things We Want To See
5. Space, Space, Space
A good way to avoid all of that allegory stuff is to send the X-Men to space. Not, as has been suggested in the past, to their own planet where they can have adventures independent of the other superheroes, but on swashbuckling adventures like they’ve had with the Shi’ar Empire. The X-Men have a habit of going to space and there’s no reason to keep them Earthbound in the new series. You can even send the Gold Team to space and keep the Blue Team here. Think cosmic stuff belongs to the Guardians of the Galaxy? That’s like saying the rooftops of Manhattan belong to Spider-Man. If ninety five percent of Marvel superheroes can live in New York, surely the Guardians and X-Men can share outer space.
The new X-Men books need to feel fresh and exciting. We want to minimize politics and avoid having characters stand around talking to each other for an entire issue. Space offers so much potential, whether it’s with alien species we’ve seen before or with brand new ones (seriously, not everything has to be a throwback to Claremont). If the X-Men are to be restored, space is definitely a big part of that process.
