X-Men: Apocalypse - 25 WTF Moments
13. Apocalypse: Swiss Army Knife
If you're not particularly familiar with the comics, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Apocalypse's mutation is being able to summon JUST the right power at the perfect moment to get out of difficult situations. It's actually sort of true anyway, but the way the film presents him is as if he's a swiss army knife of powers, suddenly able to pull increasingly astonishing powers out of thin air without much set up.
Oscar Isaac's performance as Apocalypse doesn't deserve the criticism it has received in reviews, BUT there's something slightly amiss with the way his powers are written. He appears to be seeking to surround himself with powerful Horsemen, while insisting he deserves to be classed as a god, but there's not really enough to offer precedent to those claims or his escalated powers.
But then he's basically capable of anything with no more than a flick of his fingers. This is all actually remarkably useful, because Oscar Isaac has so much make-up and prosthetics on his hands that it looks like he's constantly wearing two giant foam fingers from baseball.
