X-Men: Apocalypse Reviews- 12 Early Reactions You Need To Know

3. It's Violent

In contrast with the assertion that the thrills aren't exactly up to billing, there seems to be a feeling that Apocalypse is darker and more violent than the more cartoonish comic book movies seen elsewhere, as New York Daily News say:

"This might not be the best superhero movie for the youngest of kids, because there are moments that are darker and more violent than other Marvel fare."

That much shouldn't be too surprising: a film called Apocalypse that didn't mess everything up would have been castigated as a let down from the get-go. What does seem odd, though is the curious lack of a message focused on collateral damage. The Telegraph call the film "curiously more sadistic, and seemingly less bothered about large-scale human fallout" than its immediate competitors.

Personally, I'll take that as a positive. I'm now getting sick of the "what about the little guys?" questions every time a superhero breaks a few eggs to save the chicken coup. To not be bogged down in such moral hand-wringing is a welcome diversion.
