The chance to see Psylocke is one of those moments fans have been waiting for for a long time - she ranks alongside Nightcrawler and Gambit as fan favourites, after all - and while there's always going to be an element of fans who want to see her in her traditionally risque costume, a couple of reviews pointed out that it seems a little cynical. The Wrap in particular weren't impressed:

"What€™s Munn€™s reward for three impressive seasons on HBO€™s The Newsroom? A costume that€™s more appropriate for a cosplay fetish ball than for combat. There€™s that joke about yellow spandex that Wolverine makes in the first €œX-Men€ movie, the one that underscores the fact that outfits that work on paper don€™t necessarily translate to film, and one wishes that Psylocke€™s ninja-stipper get-up had received similar consideration."

It does seem odd that costumes would be a specific point of comedy in the original film, and now we're seeing a pretty pure adaption of Psylocke's look. But then those fans who love Psylocke's original look would no doubt have kicked right off if she'd been toned down.

The Chicago Tribune meanwhile have more issue with how little she's in it, despite offering the most promise:

"She€™s barely in it, and she€™s barely wearing much of barely anything, yet I spent much of Bryan Singer€™s earnest, competently crafted slog texting notes to myself regarding a petition I€™d like to circulate that launches Munn€™s telepathic ninja warrior mutant Psylocke into her own franchise. She's one of A-pock€™s €œfour horsemen,€ the woman with the devil in her eyes brandishing a digital lightsaber-y lasso.
X-Men: Apocalypse invests heavily in the moist-eyed emoting going on in the neighborhood of James McAvoy (Professor X, the one with the fancy boarding school for the specially gifted). The storyline requires Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence (the conflicted Magneto and the conflicted Raven, respectively) to try their damndest not to look as bored as they likely are with these roles, better for their income than their craft. Munn's a different, livelier story. She's stoked."

Let's hope she sticks around for sequels and more screentime.
