Zack Snyder's Superman Film MAN OF STEEL Will Fly As Summer 2013 Release
New Superman film pushed back from it's crowded Dec 2012 release to a June 14th, 2013 summer tentpole take-off!
With this Christmas 2012 schedule;
... it was always difficult to see just where Zack Snyder's Superman reboot Man of Steel would fit in. We were forever vaguely told that the movie would be coming in Dec 2012 but no actual firm release date was ever set and we always did feel like something had too and would give eventually. Warner Bros announced today that the Man of Steel will become a summer blockbuster again, as he should always be, with a new date of June 14th, 2013 set. I don't see how this can be anything but positive news for everyone except the overly impatient. The six months delay gives Zack Snyder and his 'Godfather' Christopher Nolan and screenwriters David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan that extra bit of breathing time that can so often make the difference between a number of bad choices being made and some great ones. Nobody wants to see a rushed movie and in any event, I firmly believe the delay is more down to the fact that there was just no fitting Superman: The Man of Steel in the jam-packed superhero year of 2012 rather than any problems with pre-production. So basically we are going to have to wait a little longer to believe a man can fly again but that's ok (as long as the world doesn't end in 2012 anyway but Superman would never let that happen). And 2012 seems to be getting a little less geekier at every turn (we've already lost Wolverine and now Superman with Star Trek 2's summer 2012 date expected to quickly follow suit) but hell - we are still getting The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Rises, Bond 23, The Hobbit and everything else in the same year. Tell that to my eight year self way back when and he would have been a very happy bunny indeed.
Superman: The Man of Steel stars this fella above (Henry Cavill) as our title character in a cast brimming with perfect casting choices left, right and center - Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Ma Kent), Kevin Costner (Pa Kent), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Antje Traue (Faora), Russell Crowe (Jor-El), Julia Ormond (Lara Lor-Van) and more! P.S. - for those wondering on twitter, Warner Bros are not leaving themselves suspect to a lawsuit from the Siegel & Shuster estate. They have copyright to begin production on a Supes film before the end of next year and of course with filming set to begin soon, that's not going to be a problem. They were in no pressure to release the film in 2012... just they had to begin production before the year was out.
