Zombieland: Double Tap Review - 6 Ups & 4 Downs
1. The Main Reveal Is Insanely Predictable
No spoilers here, but again, this isn't a surprising movie in really any way, and that extends to the film's main narrative conceit, the payoff of which is hilariously predictable to anyone with much understanding of a) the horror genre or b) filmmaking in general.
In fact, the end-of-second-act "surprise" is so absurdly obvious you'd be forgiven for assuming co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who went on to write the Deadpool movies, were setting audiences up for an hilarious subversion of expectations.
Instead, this plot element unfolds exactly as expected, perhaps with the idea being that the sheer predictability is, itself, a plot twist.
But it's undeniably underwhelming, even if the reveal itself does ultimately give the film an injection of comedic energy just when it needs it.
These gripes aside, though, Double Tap hits most of its broad markers effectively. Here's everything it gets right...
