10 "WTF Did I Just Pay For?!" Video Games
7. ReCore
ReCore came along in 2016 with the promise of being a smash hit. How did that go? Well, it wouldn't be on this list if it pulled it off.
The names involved in this game should have been enough to make something worthwhile. A story written by Halo's Joseph Staten? Concepts from Keiji Inafune, the co-creator of Mega Man? The Metroid Prime series director Mark Pacini at the helm? Come on, this is all too good to be true!
Sadly, that was the case, as this acclaimed team's efforts were not enough to save this Xbox One game from a broken launch.
ReCore arrived with a boatload of issues, with one of the worst being its tendency to crash unexpectedly. It was also plagued with lengthy loading screens that pushed you into long bouts of inactivity, testing your patience and tanking the game's pacing.
Oh, and if you managed to push past those issues, you were rewarded with uninspired level design, tedious gameplay, and excessive grinding. Hooray!
The Definitive Edition (released a year later) did fix a lot of these problems, but for many it was too little too late. Everyone who shelled out for what they thought would be the start of something special soon felt like they'd been played for fools.
