4. Metal Gear Rex/Liquid Snake (Metal Gear Solid)
It all comes down to this. You've spent hours wandering around Shadow Moses trying to stop the threat of Metal Gear for good and - quite suddenly - here's Metal Gear Rex looming over you.
Solid Snake's good - he's pretty good, in fact - but when you first saw his tiny form in front of the huge Metal Gear Rex, that was a real brown trouser moment. How could you possibly fell such a foe? Well, you arm yourself with as many chaff grenades as you can, jam that thing's systems and wail on it with your stinger missile launcher, of course.
That's all while trying to dodge Rex's attacks, including a devastating missile barrage. Make sure to bring as many rations as you can - you'll need them!
This fight is also particularly notable for the reappearance of Grey Fox, who sacrifices himself to give Snake a fighting change against Liquid and Rex.
After you've felled Rex, you'll get another epic fight to enjoy too. This time, Solid and Liquid Snake do battle hand-to-hand on the remains of the mech. It's a brilliant fight where the stakes feel higher than ever.
