Sony's sleek-and-stylish follow up to their first console was an absolute financial juggernaut. Within just twelve months of its launch, the PS2 had already shipped over 20 million units worldwide on its journey to becoming the highest-selling piece of video game hardware of all time.
To celebrate the phenomenal milestone, the company released a set of garish variations known as the 'European Automotive Color Collection', for reasons which were not eminently clear, though presumably had something to do with the Lamborghini yellow and Ferrari red models.
Just 2000 of each colour was made available, individually selling for a hefty ¥50,000 - approximately $416 in 2001 money. Those with more cash than cognitive reasoning could bag the entire set for the princely price of ¥250,000 - around $2076 for a quintet of functionally identical consoles.
