10 Amazing Recent Games That Were 5 Hours Or Less
3. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Remastered
Amid the growing sea of listless, dispassionate remasters of classic games, it was a relief to see Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver get a worthy new coat of paint last December, as part of a remaster compendium including its sequel, Soul Reaver 2.
But it's the original Soul Reaver which fans remember most fondly for its wildly ahead-of-their-time visuals, excellent world-building, and gripping story, all of which continues to influence the genre, consciously or not, an entire quarter-century later.
This remaster isn't just a quick glow-up produced with AI tools - it's a worthy graphical improvement, but goes one better by introducing myriad quality-of-life fixes such as a modern control scheme, improved camera, and even a map-compass combo to ease navigation.
Though you can certainly spend more than five hours revisiting Soul Reaver - especially if you get lost in its new photo mode and explore the restored lost levels - the core experience is a towering achievement relative to both the year of its release and its brief length.
