10 Amazing Stories Trapped In Mediocre Video Games
6. Persona 3
The past several years have seen the Persona series finally getting its due in the mainstream JRPG market here in the west, prompting many to return to previous titles to get their fix until Atlus finally releases the next game.
Persona 3 is considered by many hardcore fans to be the best in the series, due to its characters and story - both of which are magnificent. However, going back, there's little arguing just how much the franchise has left this entry behind in terms of gameplay.
For one, the most obvious example, having the player only able to control one character in a turn-based RPG was such a bad idea that they undid it in the PSP remake of the game. Also, other elements of the game that later entries would iron out and expand upon are presented bare bones in this. And while the idea of reverse arcana does help in giving your dialogue choices some actual weight, they simply don't go far enough with it.
For all its flaws, though, the game endures thanks to its story, by far the darkest tale in a VERY dark franchise, and one of the best RPG casts ever made.
