10 Amazing Video Game Powers That Come At An Equally Great Cost
6. Ignus Teachings - Planescape: Torment
Ignus is a mad, pyromaniacal mage from Planescape: Torment who’s been cursed to burn forever in his own flames after he attempted to set half of the city of Sigil on fire.
Despite being burned alive, Ignus seems to be almost thriving in his cursed state, and you can actually speak with him to learn some pretty interesting information.
It turns out that the firestarter wizard learned his mastery over flames from one of your main character’s past incarnations. If you persuade him, he can actually become your own mentor instead, passing down your original self’s knowledge onto your new form.
The only problem is that despite being a legendary spellcaster, your past incarnation was a bit of a harsh teacher. And Ignus utilizes a similar coaching technique based on tormenting his student.
Choosing to accept Ignus’s teachings can give your magically inclined characters huge boosts to experience, allowing them to become powerful in a fraction of the time, but each lesson costs them their own health points.
The end result of learning from Ignus is basically a “glass cannon” mage who can deal far more damage than they should but can also die from the weakest enemy attacks.
