10 Artistic Things Video Games Can Do That Movies Can't
4. Customization
In very broad strokes, sometimes customization is what video games are all about (apart from the escapism bit). It certainly varies from game to game, but whether it is designing your character in a Role Playing Game, or reshaping your entire world in Minecraft, Video Games offer the opportunity to the player to fit the game to their own personal preferences. A film director crafts a film to as closely resemble their original vision as possible. The upside to video games in this aspect is they offer the option (if not always the freedom) to be the director of the story - within reason. Not all video games allow as extensive customization as creatively possible (some, like Call of Duty, only break out the customization chops when multiplayer rolls around) but when given the opportunity to be master of your own fate within a fantastical story/world, there are few things more satisfying than accepting the offer.
