10 Artistic Things Video Games Can Do That Movies Can't
5. Silent Protagonists
Of course movies have done this before. Unlike video games, film was founded before sound editing was even possible. However, as the years have worn on, the patience of moviegoers when it comes to silent protagonists has only dwindled. When a character speaks minimally in a film, they are often accused by critics of being poorly developed or wooden - and often rightly so. But video game protagonists are a different sort of breed. While many have quite iconic voices and catchphrases to go along with their actions, many have never uttered an audible word of dialogue. In the logic of video game developers, silent protagonists are easier to relate to - the animators are much more comfortable relying on animated body language and short guttural noises to develop an iconic protagonist.
