In most games, an instant-death mechanic can be cumbersome and frustrating. Even Hotline Miami, for all its brilliance, has moments within levels that feel near impossible and rely mostly on blind luck.

Katana Zero has none of these moments. Instead, you're given enough tricks up your sleeve to methodically plan your moves effectively, whilst giving you the skills to get out of trouble when things go pear-shaped.

The neo-noir world that houses our unnamed samurai is steeped in neon, punctuated by a brilliant Blade Runner inspired 80s electro soundtrack. Each level is cleverly displayed as our assassins plan, rather than the attempt itself, making failure feel less like death and more an incentive to be more creative with your approach. This pays off in a big way, where at the end of a completed run, the security tapes play through your infiltration, making you feel like a god.

Katana Zero's clever movement and use of unique mechanics such as slowing time make navigating each level feel effortless. This allows space for players to slash through multiple enemies on a diagonal then knee slide in slo-mo whilst reflecting a bullet.

Katana Zero is fast-paced, high adrenaline and incredibly cool.
