10 Awesome Gaming Franchises It Became Cool To Hate

6. Resident Evil

There once was a time when the Resident Evil series the most popular and acclaimed survival horror video game series. The games excelled in atmosphere. The purposely cumbersome game design, pitch perfect soundtrack, and well-designed creatures came together to create games that made you afraid to turn a corner. The Resident Evil remake for the Gamecube in particular remains the pinnacle of what the series can achieve. However, as the video game industry moved forward, the Resident Evil series started feeling dated. Resident Evil 4 changed things up, but where that game struck a perfect balance of action and horror, subsequent instalments stumbled. Resident Evil 5 and 6 feel more like action games than anything else. RE6 was one of the poorest received main entries in the series in quite a long time and, when combined with the half-baked spin-offs, has made a franchise that was once looked at with excitement feel stale and outdated. The next instalment is bound to be met with cynicism. While there is no denying its recent fall from grace, the negative reactions to Resident Evil 6 were a tad overblown. It is a fun and spooky action game to play with a buddy. The fact is that there is still a ton of potential with this franchise; it just needs to reinvent itself again. Lack of consistent innovation has always been the franchise's weak spot. When Capcom finds a style that works they tend to stick to it until it becomes outdated. All this franchise needs is good ideas from passionate people. In fact, it may even be time to wipe the slate clean and start over since the story continues to snowball into a convoluted mess. There is just too much potential left in the Resident Evil series to give up and start hating on it now.
