10 Awesome Moments That Defined The N64
9. Taking Advantage Of Oddjob (GoldenEye 64)
GoldenEye 64 – an undeniably influential entry in the shooter genre – contained both single-player and multiplayer components, both of which are remembered with significant fondness.
Besides that, the game is credited with bringing first-person
shooters to home consoles, pioneering the inclusion of scoped sniper rifles in
video games, and revitalising the genre with more realistic physics and more
precise damage detection.
Multiplayer was a particular treat – especially on consoles, usually reserved only for PC – defining many players’ experiences with the entire console. That said, there was one exception: playing as Oddjob, which was usually prohibited in most households due to his insane advantages. For one thing, he was remarkably short, meaning most attempts at automatic aiming would result in bullets flying right over his head, completely missing their intended target.
His signature weapon – a razor sharp hat – was also remarkably cheap, dismembering enemies upon contact with minimal effort.
