10 Awesome Moments That Defined The Nintendo GameCube
1. Unlocking Mewtwo (Super Smash Bros. Melee)
Super
Smash Bros. Melee was a massive success, selling over seven million copies. Besides that, the game was designed with replayability
in mind, meaning most players continued to get something out of the experience,
again and again, competing with friends and honing their abilities, as well as
practicing that irritating wave dash technique.
The game was tremendously addictive, positively packed with unlockables, secrets, and challenges, each of which required a considerable degree of dedication. That said, there was one particular milestone that stood out – Mewtwo, a playable character who could only be unlocked after seven hundred games of versus mode, which is actually insane even by modern standards.
Of course, there was another way to unlock the character – playing the game consistently for sixty-hours without turning off the console, or playing for twenty hours with two controllers plugged in, or ten hours with three controllers, or six hours with four. Naturally, most players took advantage of this loophole, leaving their consoles on overnight, connecting as many controllers as possible to their machines, and waiting for a miracle.
