Resident Evil – a remake of the original – aimed to revitalise the franchise for a new generation of players, tweaking aspects of the gameplay, the characters, and even the story. Unfortunately, it was a commercial disappointment, resulting in a massive change in direction for the franchise. With that being said, the game is considered one of the greatest survival horror games ever made, as well as a testament to the graphical capabilities of the console itself.

Besides the graphics, the remake overhauled several key story elements as well, including the manner by which certain characters are dismembered or devoured. Additionally, the game introduced several new missions and objectives, including a side story involving the mutilated test subject, Lisa Trevor – a child, experimented upon and transformed into a monstrous, hulking abomination.

Encountering the character is a massive surprise, mainly because she doesn’t appear in the original. She was a complete invention – one of numerous atrocities running around inside the mansion, only one with an unexpectedly heart-breaking backstory, completely justifying her inclusion in the game, and cementing her status as a standout moment for the console.
