2. 100 Lives - Super Mario 64

In Super Mario 64, the moustachioed plumber needs to collect 70 of the 120 Power Stars to save Princess Peach. Although this is a reasonably easy task, finding all of them is no picnic.

Some Power Stars can only be attained by collecting eight Red Coins or 100 regular coins, which can be tedious and time-consuming. Several Stars are infamously difficult to find, such as Wing Mario Over the Rainbow, Blast to the Lonely Mushroom, and Wall Kicks Will Work. Also, every star in Tick, Tock Clock and Rainbow Ride is infuriating.

After receiving a 100% completion rating, Mario will gain access to a cannon that blasts him onto the roof of Peach's castle.

While there, Mario will bump into the adorable dino, Yoshi. So, what does Mario's egg-blasting buddy do? Does he give his oldest friend an awesome power-up? Will Mario get the chance to ride on his sidekick's back like the good old days?

Nope. Instead, Yoshi gives Mario a hundred lives before running away.

In a way, this encounter feels like a cruel joke. Yeah, those hundred lives would've been handy earlier, but not after everything is done and dusted. Also, Mario goes back to having the standard five lives once the game is reset, making Yoshi's "gift" temporary.
