6. Beyond Good and Evil (2003)

Beyond Good and Evil is a superb action-adventure title that, upon its release, enjoyed massive critical acclaim and was actually planned as the first part of a trilogy. I actually picked up a copy in response to these positive reviews when it was first released and fell instantly in love with it. Surprisingly though, it turned out to be a complete and utter financial flop. Many believe that Beyond Good and Evil was in fact shot in the foot by the very company it came from; Ubisoft released it simultaneously along with Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, both of which already had strong brand identities that a debut title such as Beyond Good and Evil couldn't hope to compete with. So, effectively, Ubisoft strangled it to death before it could ever really find its footing. However with that being said, thanks to a popular downloadable HD remake on Xbox 360 and PS3 - as well as popular demand of course - plans for a sequel have been
rebirthed and so it looks like Beyond Good and Evil might yet get to live longer than it's initially poor sales would have indicated. Take that "the man".
