8. Fable
The 2004 action RPG from Microsoft for the XBOX has a compelling story, rich characters, and a protagonist who could literally be anyone, good or evil. Like the others, the game has won several awards for its innovation, its original score, and many others.
Why it would make a terrible film: The question of good and evil. With television shows like Breaking Bad showing off how easy it is to create a likable bad guy, why not make the Hero of Oakvale villainous on film? The gameplay allows the player to make decisions that effect the character's appearance and alignment, so why not play with it a little? Whether good or evil, the film will be scrutinized for its main character, either for not pushing the envelope, or for pushing too far. Filmmakers, knowing this, will try to please everyone - and fail miserably. No one will be able to identify with the main character because he'll be so conflicted with himself; he'll seem too mean, or even too nice and a bit false. If the audience can't connect with the main character, the film falls flat.
