4. Slender: The Eight Pages
It's short, terrifying, and while it hasn't won any awards, Slender has a sort of cult following needed to make the jump between the gaming and film entertainment platforms. It was released in June 2012 by Parsec Productions, and sports a very minimalist approach to the survival horror genre.
Why it would make a terrible film: Not enough plot to go on. The plot consists of an unknown character waking up in the forest at night armed with only a flashlight of questionable battery power. The character then wanders around the forest looking for eight pages that consist of text and stick-figure art. If you see Slender, you run in the opposite direction and hope he doesn't catch you. If he does, game over. If you collect all eight pages? Slender catches you and the game ends anyway. Who is the main character? Why is he/she collecting the pages? How did Slender get you to that secluded area? Too many questions means too much liberty for screenwriters, and the minimalist charm of the game will be lost on the big screen.
