3. American McGee's Alice
It's dark, sinister, and disturbing. The October 2000 release from developer Rogue Entertainment and publisher Electronic Arts is as captivating as it is disbelieving. The story follows Alice, who's entire family dies in a house fire after her second adventure in Wonderland. Ten years later, she's lost touch of reality and is pulled back into Wonderland from a mental institution. Wonderland is warped due to her mental state, and she's the only one who can stop the Queen of Hearts and return that world to beauty.
Why it would make a terrible film: Ruined childhoods. There are plenty of Alice in Wonderland spin-offs out there, but none are this violent, stressful, or dark. Those who haven't played the game wouldn't know what to do with themselves in the theater, whether it be cringe at the gore or cheer at the uniqueness. Due to its probable placement in the suspense and horror genres, the film would also likely suffer from poor funding, and therefore lack the grotesque scenery and character designs that make the game so memorable and engaging.
