The multiplayer-centric nature of the Call of Duty franchise makes weapon balancing of paramount importance, so fans quickly cried foul when Modern Warfare 2 launched with surely the most outrageously OP weapon in the series' history - the Model 1887.

The Model 1887 is the final shotgun unlocked in the game, and at release it was by far Modern Warfare 2's most powerful weapon, due to both its incredible range and the player's ability to equip it akimbo, effectively allowing double damage.

As a result, the Model 1887 basically acted like a shotgun sniper rifle, capable of one-shotting enemies from ridiculously far distances.

Players vocally complained to developers Infinity Ward, who eventually patched the game to nerf the 1887, decreasing its effective range dramatically.

As amusing as it was to use the 1887 against incredulous enemies, it ultimately just stirred up the community's worst instincts and left a lot of players understandably unhappy at how "unfair" it was to fight against. Unsurprisingly, usage of the weapon declined heavily after the patch.
